A Christian organization known as “Answers of Genesis” has recreated the biblical story, Noah’s Ark, and turned it into a popular theme park in America.
The park, known as Ark Encounter, opened in Grant County, Kentucky in July 2016. It measures 510 feet long, 85 feet wide, and 51 feet high–following the exact specifications of the original Noah’s Ark that was laid out in the Bible (Genesis 6:15).
Designed by Patrick Marsh–a veteran theme park engineer who also created the Universal Studios’ King Kong and Jaws attractions–Ark Encounter boasts real-life recreations of the characters from Noah’s Ark. Inside it is a three-story museum that is filled with animatronic versions of Noah, his family, and the animals that were saved from the flood.
Upon entering the ark, visitors are greeted with educational visuals and information about the flood from the popular biblical story. The second floor is where guests can view moving real-life recreations of the animal pens and Noah’s family quarters. The third floor houses a restaurant-theater, as well as a large selection of biblical videos and graphic novels.
Ark Encounter draws in about a million guests per year. According to “Answers of Genesis” President Ken Ham, their goal is to make the theme park among America’s most popular vacation spots, such as Disneyland and Universal Studios. In an interview with the Washington Post, Ham expressed the organization’s plans to develop the park and recreate it into Noah’s city before it was washed out by the flood.
