For his Lenten message this year, Pope Francis reminded everyone to not allow the season to pass in vain and welcome Christ in our lives. He said, “Let us ask God to help us set out on a path of true conversion. Let us leave behind our selfishness and self-absorption, and turn to Jesus’ Pasch (Passover). Let us stand beside our brothers and sisters in need, sharing our spiritual and material goods with them. In this way, by concretely welcoming Christ’s victory over sin and death into our lives, we will also radiate its transforming power to all of creation.”
In this regard, the Jesuit Communications Foundation (JesCom) produces this year’s Lenten special Sumasampalataya Ako to inspire viewers by sharing different stories of faith this coming Holy Week. The show will air on ABS-CBN Channel 2 on April 14, Good Friday at 4 p.m.
“Amidst the many criticisms faced by the Catholic Church, it’s nice to watch something that renews and refreshes our faith. As we sit back, look and listen to these people, we can actually see the beauty of faith even in little things like participating in Mass or observing art,” said JesCom Creative Director Pauline Mangilog-Saltarin in an interview.
The collection of stories—from a Jesuit poet, a media personality who paints an image of Christ every Good Friday, to a priest who travels to far-flung areas to celebrate Mass—tells the “deep, personal revelations when one encounters the breathtaking beauty and sheer wonder of the Catholic faith.”
Mangilog-Saltarin further added that this year’s Lenten special highlights the doctrine and basic teachings of the Catholic Church such as the observance of the sacraments and various religious observances and festivals like the devotion to the Nazareno and the Sinulog.
In between these stories of faith will be reflections and discussions from Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle.
