PNP grants medal to MRT police splashed with taho

The Philippine National Police (PNP) granted a medal of commendation to the officer who was splashed with a cup of taho by an angry Chinese woman at the MRT Boni station Saturday afternoon.

The ceremony, held Monday morning in Camp Crame, intended to acknowledge the “perseverance and patience” shown by the officer who was identified as PO1 William Cristobal. “Ipinakita niya ‘yung kaniyang tiyaga at pasensya na kailangan ng ating kapulisan talaga,” (He showed the perseverance and patience that our police need.) PNP chief, Director General Oscar Albayalde, told reporters.

The incident comes after all kinds of bottled drinks, water, and liquid substances were banned at train stations in Metro Manila. The new policy serves as an added security measure following the twin bombing incidents in Jolo, Sulu on January 27 which killed 23 people and left 95 civilians wounded.
