Pope Francis strongly believes in artists and their ability to brighten up the world. According to the Pope, artists have the power to transform everyone’s lives by simply sparking beauty and love in everything around them. “[It is the] artists of every discipline [who] are called to shine beauty especially where darkness or gray dominates everyday life,” he was once heard saying.
In the Philippines, there are different groups of artists who embody exactly what our dear Lolo Kiko says. Among these groups is the Bukas Palad Music Ministry who has made it its mission to inspire and empower parish choirs and communities with its original song compositions. In fact, the group’s music has been known to move listeners to tears with its songs that inspire and stir the heart.
As the group is very much known for its liturgical songs that celebrate special events in the Catholic calendar, the Bukas Palad Music Ministry has recently created buzz after it announced the launch of an album that celebrates the Easter Season. Entitled Behold the Risen Lord, the album is the third installment in a trilogy of recordings that began with Behold the Child in 2013, followed by Behold the Cross in 2016.
According to the ministry’s Facebook events page, Behold the Risen Lord will be formally launched on Sunday, March 24, during a free-admission prayer-concert at the Church of the Gesu at the Ateneo de Manila University. The album, which will feature an all-original repertoire of songs that celebrate the resurrection of Christ, will include heartrending compositions such as the praise and thanksgiving single Sa Iyong Muling Pagkabuhay, the Communion-inspired song “Pakikinabang,” and the Easter Vigil accompaniment “My Soul Longs for You.”
Apart from the launching of the Behold the Risen Lord album, the prayer-concert will also serve as a venue for a book launch by one of Bukas Palad Music Ministry’s founders and song composers, Father Manuel “Manoling” Simplicio Valdes Francisco. The book, entitled To Gaze Upon the Lord’s Face, is a compilation of Father Manoling’s profound writings and inspiring homilies that were previously featured in the Philippine Star column, God’s Word Today.
