Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle will lead a conference for the Filipino youth this month, and its focus will be on establishing a stronger connection between the church and the younger generation.
The conference, called Philippine Conference on New Evangelization (PCNE), has been running for six years now. It was introduced by Cardinal Tagle in 2013 as a response to the call of the new evangelization.
For this year, the PCNE is scheduled to run from Friday, July 19, to Sunday, July 21, at the Quadricentennial Pavilion of the University of Santo Tomas (UST). With the theme “Filipino Youth Walking with Jesus,” the conference is expected to open up a series of activities and discussions that aim to give voice to the youth and inspire them to deepen their faith in God.
Sounds interesting? Below are specific details on what to expect from the three-day conference:
Friday, July 19
The conference will open with a Mass called “Misa ng Bayang Pilipino” which will be presided over by Daet Bishop Rex Alarcon. It will be followed by a “heart to heart” talk between the young participants and Cardinal Tagle.
Saturday, July 20
The second day of the conference will also be packed with inspirational learning activities. Here, the participants will get to hear motivational stories from youth ministers and their young collaborators. A staged reading about the younger generation’s call for a more welcoming and listening Church will also be held.
Sunday, July 21
The last day of the conference will be dedicated to exploring the church’s theme for the year 2019, “Filipino Youth in Mission: Beloved, Gifted, Empowered”. It will be divided into three segments, namely: Praise and Worship, Youth Jam, and Young people and their encounter with family, digital community, fellow youth, Church, and God.
To conclude the conference, a Mass will be held followed by the commissioning of missionary disciples to be led by Cardinal Tagle.
Apart from the main activities listed above, the PCNE will also offer 10 concurrent sessions that will focus on education, culture, mission, youth, social advocacy, catechesis, social media, new trends in youth ministry and family. There will also be a number of side activities that the participants can join throughout the three-day conference. These include a Labyrinth, prayer walls, counselling, and confessions.
