Netizens are praising P&G-owned brand, Vicks Philippines, for shedding light and promoting awareness on a sensitive but significant topic, the HIV virus.

On Monday, March 4, Vicks launched a heartwarming video campaign entitled “Just A Boy #TouchOfCare.” The inspiring film, which tells the true story of an adoptive mother who is raising a young boy born with HIV, shows us how “Everyone deserves a touch of care.”

Set in the Philippines, the four-minute film conveys a single mother’s unconditional love for her adopted son who, while still an infant, was abandoned and disowned by his relatives. It shows the former’s struggles in raising the boy by herself, only to soon find out that he is an in-born carrier of the HIV virus.

Now confronted by people’s judgments and wrong notions about having a child born with HIV, the mother finds herself in a confusing and difficult place. By the end, however, her love for her child prevails, and she decides to continue raising him and loving him unconditionally.

In the latter part of the video, the mother tearfully tells how her son survived the disease, and is now able to live like any other child. “Apat na taon ang hinintay ko bago marinig ito, natutulog na ang virus sa katawan niya. Ngayon, tulad na sya ng ibang bata.” (I finally heard the words I waited four years to hear. The virus is now dormant in his body. Today, he can be like other children.)
