“Salamat Pho” hopes to raise money to help Filipino fishermen

Ba Noi Restaurant

On June 10, the whole country was rocked by an unfortunate event that left 22 Filipino fishermen stranded in the deep waters of the West Philippine Sea in the middle of the night.

Tatlong oras po kami [palutang-lutang],” Junel Insigne––the captain of the fishing boat––shared.

As they struggled to stay afloat while fighting for their lives, the Filipino fishermen would have lost all hope if it wasn’t for the help of the Vietnamese fishermen who happened to pass by hours after the incident.

“Philippines. Vietnam. Friends.”

These three words uttered by one of the Vietnamese fishermen gave hope to the 22 Filipinos they rescued. And with the fact that they almost lost their lives from the unfortunate scenario, the Filipino fishermen––and now, even the Filipino community––couldn’t thank their Vietnamese friends enough.

Salamat Pho

To commemorate the amazing friendship that was forged between the Filipinos and Vietnamese people, volunteer group Team Pilipinas decided to host a fundraising dinner event. The event is called “Salamat Pho”––a witty and symbolic take on the Filipino phrase: “salamat po” (thank you) and the Vietnamese dish: Pho.

Set to happen on July 12, 6:00 pm at the Ba Noi’s Restaurant in Legaspi Village, Makati City, “Salamat Pho” aims to raise funds to help the Filipino fishermen who were gravely victimized by the unfortunate event.

With just a minimum donation of P500, a guest can enjoy a bowl of Pho––the famous Vietnamese soup that has meat, noodles, and different vegetables and spices that make it flavorful and fragrant.
