A Friend Indeed

I believe that God’s miracles work through our friends. When I was in a very low place, I felt then that no one could save me from self- destructing. Even my parents gave up and I lost friends—except one. A high school friend gave me bus money to go to his place in Pampanga. While I was there, he showed me that I can still rectify my mistakes and live a good life. I didn’t want to disappoint him so I worked hard to make myself better. After two years of living with him and his family, I got a job at a call center, invested in a motorcycle, and am now sober and happier.

Personal Lifeline

I was a youth volunteer in our barangay when this happened. I was heading home from a dance practice one day when one of our members texted me, “kuya, kumusta?” I only had two pesos in my load balance, so I was hesitant to reply. But something told me to, so I typed, “Ayos lang bro’, ikaw?” Suddenly, he was calling me. It turned out that he was thinking of ending his life that very moment, but because I replied, he now had someone to talk to about his problems. We are still friends today, and Iamgoingtobeaninongtohis second baby in a few months.

The Power of Prayer

A friend’s newborn baby was diagnosed with a hearing problem. After the infant underwent tests in two hospitals with disheartening results, the mother asked me to pray for her baby. I organized a prayer brigade with some of our closest friends, and when she went to another hospital for another test, we got the good news we were hoping for! Truly, prayer is a wonderful and powerful thing.
