A group of young artists is using their talents and skills for a better cause. They are now accepting art commissions through the “add to kART project” to raise funds for medical frontliners battling the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jerico Garcia, one of the organizers, said in an interview, the “add to kART project” started from a simple “ayaan” in their school organization.
“We want to make a move on how to contribute to our community, to our frontliners, the one fighting this pandemic. So we came up with this idea to use Art as a medium to help,” he said.
The initiative is composed of twenty-five artist from PUP-MNL Electrical Engineering Department (PUP EED), Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP), International Institute of Human Capital (IIHC), Technological University of the Philippines (TUP), University of the Philippines (UP) and Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF).
add to kART started last month and ended early this month. It garnered a total of 149 art commissions and raised P32,877. Six hospitals around Rizal became the beneficiaries of the personal protective equipment (PPE), surgical gloves, surgical masks, and antibacterial soaps from the project.
These artists—painters and graphic designers—really proved that art can be used to bring light in dark times.
