Did you know that Chris Tiu thought he wasn’t good enough to play basketball? Now, not only is he one of the leaders of his team in the PBA, Chris is also an intrepid businessman, TV host, dutiful civil servant, doting hubby, and a dad. And if you follow him on Instagram, you’ll know he could play K-drama theme songs on the piano, too!
How does he manage to do everything he does? Chris tells us all.
What are you currently busy with?
I am still playing professional basketball for the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the Philippine Basketball Association. It is my sixth year in the PBA, but prior to that I played four years with the national team. So 10 years in total after college. I am also managing and developing several business ventures that keep me preoccupied. We are in the food, advertising, and most recently renewable energy industries. I also host a TV program called “Bilib” on GMA Network, which is a science show catered to the young ones. I am on my last term as a barangay kagawad and I am a husband and a father of two girls.
“I love that I enjoy my work because I am passionate about the things I do. I wouldn’t get into something that I am not passionate about.”
What do you love most about your work?
I love that I enjoy my work because I am passionate about the things I do. I wouldn’t get into something that I am not passionate about. For basketball, I get paid to compete and stay fit, plus it’s a great platform to promote my advocacies, since Filipinos love basketball and we play on national TV. For renewable energy, I get to travel to beautiful, scenic places and save the environment. I also get to exchange ideas with like-minded individuals who are passionate about saving the environment.
How do you live your purpose through your work?
First of all, I wouldn’t usually call it work because what I do is often my advocacy as well, like sports, education, and renewable energy. I try to use every avenue to serve God, which is concretely manifested through the values that we espouse when we go to “work” every day, such as excellence, integrity, compassion, service, and humility. I also try to make the most of my interactions with people, either by developing good relations or being a good friend, mentor, and follower, depending on the circumstance.
